Style Sessions Japan – September 2005
The Freshpaved crew has returned from Japan, and everyone had an amazing time. Tokyo and it's surrounding mountains definitely have some of the smoothest, freshly paved (no pun intended) streets in the world. The scenery was truly breath-taking, and the locals were super chill, too. The journey was a huge success, and everyone returned in one piece. Skating down Mt. Fuji was a spiritual, and insane experience; we descended 16 miles in less than 40 minutes and hitting the streets of Tokyo was unlike any urban experience here in Manhappenin'. We are currently selecting and editing some of the 11 hours of video footage we captured. Once we've completed, we'll post it on the site along with a little article about the trip, and some kind words from this year's Style Sessions winner, Manny Pangilinan. In the meantime, check out this mini (very) rough cut we quickly pieced together; should give you a little flavor of what was going and hopefully to wet your mouths for next years event and trip.... A BIG THANK YOU to Adam Clarke, Brad Bennett and everyone else in Japan who totally hooked us up and made this trip the unforgettable experience it was. Peace, Jeff and Robin A few words from Manny: This is Emanuel Pangilinan, A.K.A Manny Skate winner of Style Sessions 2005. I just wanna give a big SHOUT OUT to Jeff Gaites, Robin Mueller and everyone behind Freshpaved.com' s Style Sessions. They stood behind their word and hooked me up with the said 2005 Style Sessions prize: An all expense paid trip to Japan to skate down Mt. Fuji. We did that and so much more. Bombed all kinds of alleys and streets all over Tokyo... Roppongi to Shibuya to Nakamegro to Ebisu... Saw the Big Buddha, a Dragon Cave, Sumo Wrestlers...Met a bunch of super kind people...Racer X, Kochan, The Evangelist, Flash, Jeff Kline, CHRIS and YUMI...a bunch of shooting stars. Overall a bro-mantic trip filled with memories that are aging like fine wine as I write these words. We skated, filmed and took photos everyday thanks to Robin Mueller who at times was filming with a tripod and shooting photos at the same time. I'll leave it to Robin and Jeff to fill you in with more details and photos on Freshpaved. But in the mean time get your Style On because it looks like next year's Style Sessions prize is gonna be a trip to another beautiful part of the world. Heard the guys talkin' about it... So keep rollin' and flowin' in your own individual way because if you win Style Sessions 2006 your gonna be stoked. I know I am. Had a glorious time. Thanks again Freshpaved and Outdoorjapan, and everyone else I met in Japan... you know who you are. Thats it for now. Until next time, Domo Arigato, Manny Skate signing off. |
